Frequently Asked Questions
This is certainly not an exhaustive list, but these are the most common concerns we receive in our inbox.
Do I need any previous experience?
Nope! We have a Foundations Program for folks who are brand new to functional fitness / weightlifting and all movements can be modified to an athlete’s ability.
Wherever you’re starting from, we’ll meet you there.
Will I feel welcomed?
Absolutely. We often begin classes by asking everyone’s name and pronouns. Our coaches aim to be respectful and sensitive to members’ identities and we always love feedback for where we can improve.
Can I really take any class?
Yup. Your membership (or punchcard) includes access to any of our class offerings.
We ask that new folks enroll in our Foundations Programs, but beyond that, feel free to mix it up as often as you’d like.
How inclusive is the equipment?
We hate walking into a workout space and realizing it was only designed for one body type so we have an equal number of 15kg and 20kg barbells, fractional dumbbell sets, and many other size-inclusive equipment options.
We also have latex-free bands available — just ask.
What if I’m not “fit”?
Even folks who participate in other sports or activities find challenge in our programming.
It’s not about being the “best” but bringing your best — whatever that might be on a given day — to the workout.
I’m in town for a week and train at another gym, can I workout with y’all?
We’d love to see you. Pick up a 1 Week Pass and either keep up with your own programming during Open Gym or drop into some classes and make some PDX friends.
What are the amenities?
We have heat and AC, circulating fans, filtered water-bottle filling station, and restrooms.
Please note that our restrooms are shared with the other units in the building, so while they are designated as “female” and “male”, we invite our members to use whichever restroom they feel most comfortable using.
Why is the music sometimes terrible?
Take it up with Quint.

As someone who is a bit reserved and sometimes struggles to open up in new environments, I’ve found this gym to be a true breath of fresh air. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming, and the people here are genuinely friendly and encouraging. No matter what kind of day you’re having, you can always count on this community to cheer you up.
I’ve even made lifelong friends here, and this gym has truly become my safe space. It’s so much more than just a place to work out—it’s a community that feels like family. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a positive, inclusive, and fun fitness environment!
The coaches seem almost too passionate about pushing you to your limits—they’re relentless! Just when you think you can’t do another burpee, they somehow convince you to do five more. Don’t expect to coast through anything here; they will hold you accountable every step of the way and you will be stronger for it.
Oh! ... and the members? They're even worse! It’s like everyone has each other's backs, cheering you on when you're dying halfway through a workout, and somehow convincing you to come back the next day—even though every muscle in your body is screaming ‘no.’
And don’t think you can skip a class without someone noticing. They actually notice if you’re not there! The community is ridiculously close-knit, and they will check in on you if you miss a workout. You’re practically guilted into showing up, but in the weirdest way, it works. If you don’t want a supportive environment that’s constantly motivating you, stay far away from this place.
So, if you want a gym where you can disappear in the background and avoid progress, then you should avoid this place at all costs. But if you want results, intense support, a place where people know your name and a group that won’t let you quit… then unfortunately, you might just get hooked here. Enter at your own risk.
I love the programming. Everyone is beyond friendly and welcoming. Accessibility is a breeze.
Olympic lifting baby!
Honestly the coaching staff and the community make this place a second home. I love it here.
They do free community classes every Saturday, so if you aren't sure it gives you an easy way to find out if this is the place for you. Can't recommend enough!
